Nuveen climate and nature report 2025
As the conversation around climate and nature continues to evolve, so does our approach to it. This report represents a meaningful step forward in how Nuveen measures, manages, and communicates our work across both dimensions and marks several important firsts in our public disclosures.
What's inside:
- A firm-wide view of climate and nature. For the first time, we present a unified Nuveen perspective on climate and nature strategy, spanning risk management, investment opportunity, and active stewardship, across all six of our investment platforms: Equities, Fixed Income, Private Capital, Infrastructure, Real Estate, and Natural Capital.
- Two proprietary frameworks, disclosed for the first time. Our Hot Spot model provides a top-down materiality map of physical, transition, and nature risks across asset classes. Our Climate Solutions Framework (adapted from the Global Impact Investing Network's initiative, of which Nuveen was the lead sponsor) classifies and quantifies our $54.2 billion in climate-aligned investments, representing 4% of firmwide AUM.
- Financed emissions and nature risk metrics. We publish Scope 1, 2, and 3 financed emissions and carbon intensity data across both public and private markets for the first time in a single report. We also disclose public markets exposure to nature-related risks and opportunities in line with TNFD guidelines, another first for Nuveen.
- Active ownership in action. The report details our Climate Risk 2.0 stewardship initiative, covering approximately $63 billion in AUM and 319 cumulative company engagements since 2022, as well as our dedicated nature stewardship initiative targeting 50 companies across 16 high-impact industries.
