Fixed Income
Investing in fixed income investments involves risks such as market risk, credit risk, interest rate/duration risk, call risk, tax risk, political risk, economic risk, and income risk. Typically the value of, and income generated by, fixed income investments will decrease or increase based on changes in market interest rates. As interest rates rise, bond prices fall and as interest rates fall, bond prices rise. Income is only one component of performance and investors should consider all of the risk factors for an asset class before investing. Credit risk refers to an issuers ability to make interest and principal payments when due.
Municipal
Municipal Bond Income is generally exempt from regular federal income tax and may be subject to state and local taxes, based on the investor's state of residence, as well as to the federal alternative minimum tax (AMT). Capital gains, if any, are subject to tax. Income from municipal bonds could be declared taxable because of unfavorable changes in tax laws, adverse interpretations by the Internal Revenue Service or state tax authorities, or noncompliant conduct of a bond issuer. Please contact a tax advisor regarding the suitability of tax-exempt investments as this information should not replace a client's consultation with a financial/tax professional regarding their tax situation. Nuveen and its investment specialists do not provide tax advice.
High Yield
There are special risks associated with investments in high yield bonds. Lower rated and/or non-rated bonds commonly referred to as "high yield" or "junk" bonds are considered to be speculative, with heightened credit, liquidity, and investment risk. Bond insurance guarantees only the payment of principal and interest on the bond when due, and not the value of the bonds themselves, which can fluctuate. No representation is made as to an insurer's ability to meet their commitments.
Collateralized Loan Obligations
Any investment in collateralized loan obligations or other structured vehicles involves significant risks not associated with more conventional investment alternatives. The portfolios described herein are dynamic and may change over time. Use of the investment process tools and techniques described herein is no guarantee of investment success or positive performance. Credit risk is when an issuer of securities will be unable to pay principal and interest when due, or that the value of the security will suffer because investors believe the issuer is less able to pay. CLO liquidity risk is when during periods of limited liquidity and higher price volatility, a CLO issuer's ability to acquire or dispose of Collateral Obligations at a price and time that the issuer deems advantageous may be severely impaired. Loan risk is the lack of an active trading market for certain loans may impair the ability of the strategy to realize full value in the event of the need to sell a loan and may make it difficult to value such loans.
Senior Loans
Senior loans, both secured and unsecured, may not be rated by a national rating agency, are generally not registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and generally are not listed on a securities exchange. Therefore, they are subject to greater liquidity and credit risk. Consequently, the amount of public information available about senior loans generally is less extensive than that available for more widely rated, registered and exchange-listed securities.
In addition, some adjustable rate loans may not be fully secured by collateral, generally do not trade on exchanges, and are typically issued by unrated or below-investment grade companies and therefore are subject to greater liquidity and credit risk. Lower credit debt securities may be more likely to fail to make timely interest or principal payments. Rates on senior loans typically adjust with changes in prevailing short-term interest rates; therefore, when short-term rates rise, senior loan rates will rise and when short-term rates decline, senior loan rates will decline.
Interval Funds
An Interval fund is a non-diversified, closed-end management investment company that continuously offers its common shares. An interval fund provides liquidity through periodic repurchase offers, for example, quarterly (not daily). Due to this, Interval funds are designed for long-term investors and, unlike an investment in a traditional listed closed-end fund, should be considered illiquid. An interval fund is not intended to be a complete investment program and, due to the uncertainty inherent in all investments, there can be no assurance that the fund will achieve its investment objectives. An interval fund's performance and the value of its investments will vary in response to changes in interest rates, inflation, the financial condition of a security's issuer, ratings on a security, perceptions of the issuer, and other market factors. Common shares at any point in time may be worth less than your original investment, even after taking into account the reinvestment of fund dividends and distributions. In addition, the Fund oftentimes utilizes a significant amount of leverage and in doing so, assumes a high level of risk in pursuit of its objectives. Leverage involves the risk that the Fund could lose more than its original investment and also increases the Fund's exposure to volatility, interest rate risk and credit risk.
Private Debt
Private debt investments are not suitable for all investors given they are speculative, subject to substantial risks including the risks associated with limited liquidity, the potential use of leverage, potential short sales, concentrated investments and may involve complex tax structures and investment strategies.
Alternatives
Alternative investments are speculative, subject to substantial risks including the risks associated with limited liquidity, the potential use of leverage, potential short sales and concentrated investments and may involve complex tax structures and investment strategies. Alternative investments may be illiquid, there may be no liquid secondary market or ready purchasers for such securities, they may not be required to provide periodic pricing or valuation information to investors, there may be delays in distributing tax information to investors, they are not subject to the same regulatory requirements as other types of pooled investment vehicles, and they may be subject to high fees and expenses, which will reduce profits.
Agriculture
As an asset class, agricultural investments are less developed, more illiquid, and less transparent compared to traditional asset classes. Agricultural investments will be subject to risks generally associated with the ownership of real estate-related assets, including changes in economic conditions, environmental risks, the cost of and ability to obtain insurance, and risks related to leasing of properties.
Timberland
Timberland investments are illiquid and their value is dependent on many conditions beyond the control of portfolio managers. Estimates of timber yields associated with timber properties may be inaccurate, and unique varieties of plant materials are integral to the success of timber operations; such material may not always be available in sufficient quantity or quality. Governmental laws, rules and regulations may impact the ability of the timber investments to develop plantations in a profitable manner. Investments will be subject to risks generally associated with the ownership of real estate-related assets and foreign investing, including changes in economic conditions, currency values, environmental risks, the cost of and ability to obtain insurance and risks related to leasing of properties.
Real Estate
Real estate investments are subject to various risks, including fluctuations in property values, higher expenses or lower income than expected, and potential environmental problems and liability. Please consider all risks carefully prior to investing in any particular strategy. The portfolio's concentration in the real estate sector makes it subject to greater risk and volatility than other portfolios that are more diversified and its value may be substantially affected by economic events in the real estate industry. International investing involves risks, including risks related to foreign currency, limited liquidity particularly where the underlying asset comprises real estate, less government regulation in some jurisdictions, and the possibility of substantial volatility due to adverse political, economic or other developments.
Equity
Equity investments are subject to market risk or the risk that stocks will decline in response to such factors as adverse company news or industry developments or a general economic decline.
