Joe Castro

Joe Castro serves as EVP, Chief Risk and Compliance Officer for Nuveen and leads a global team with responsibility for developing and executing comprehensive Compliance, Operational Risk, and Investment Risk programs that support all aspects of Nuveen’s business. Joe assumed this position in 2025. Prior to this role, Joe was Head of Compliance for Nuveen since 2013.

Joe joined Nuveen from Fidelity Investments where he held several Compliance leadership positions over a 14- year period. At various times, Joe served as Head of Compliance for Fidelity’s personal investments division; employer retirement services; wholesale fund distribution; and the correspondent clearing and capital markets businesses. Joe also served as SVP and Deputy CCO within Fidelity’s Enterprise Compliance group. Prior to Fidelity, Joe spent 7 years with Citibank in a variety of Compliance positions that culminated in the role of VP and Group Compliance Officer for emerging markets capital markets and corporate finance activities.

Joe earned a BSBA in Finance from the University of Denver.
