Municipals outperformed other fixed income last week despite elevated issuance levels and continued demand for municipals. Investors allocated $1.35B into municipal funds and ETFs, highlighting continued momentum as investors seek to lock in yields and capitalize on the shape of the curve. With $36.5B of inflows into munis this year — favoring long-dated and high yield — year-to-date flows have reached the second highest level since 1992.
The market received favorable news surrounding the budget in New York. Mayor Mamdani unveiled a budget proposal which does not draw from NYC reserve levels or propose increases to property taxes. Mayor Mamdani and Governor Hochul continue to discuss a pied-à-terre tax that could potentially be applied to second homes worth $5 million or more.

Issuers brought $13.3B in new deals where longer-maturity names continued to find solid demand compared to shorter-dated names.
