Unlocking nature-based solutions with mitigation banking

As ecological degradation threatens over half of global GDP, nature-based solutions are emerging as both environmental imperatives and compelling investment opportunities. Yet, investors have encountered challenges finding scalable, transparent ways to access these opportunities.

Mitigation banking is a market-based framework addressing these challenges directly, creating opportunities for investors to contribute to solutions for addressing nature loss while potentially generating financial returns.

With nearly $4 billion in annual revenue and three decades of regulatory stability, U.S. ecosystem restoration markets are already operating at meaningful scale and can provide entry points for investors seeking portfolio diversification alongside meaningful environmental impact.

Nuveen Natural Capital's Gwen Busby, PhD, Head of Research and Strategy, explores this opportunity in more detail in the IPE Natural Capital Managers Report.
