Nazar Suschko, PHD, FRM®

Quantitative Research Analyst

Nazar is a quantitative research analyst for the Institutional Solutions Group within Nuveen Asset Management. In this role, he will help research and create new volatility models, provide theoretical expertise for institutional prospects and clients, and build out the firm’s risk managed solutions. He will also serve as a co-portfolio manager for the firm’s Managed Volatility Strategies.

Nazar began working in the financial industry in 2004 and joined Nuveen Asset Management in 2016. Previously, he was a portfolio manager at AEGON USA Investment Management, where he managed risk-based asset allocation strategies, developed portfolio construction methods, and managed the exchange-traded futures hedging and volatility management processes. Before that, he held several other roles at AEGON in both the U.S. and the Netherlands, including senior investment risk manager and the head of European portfolio risk management. He began his career in the financial industry at ING IM as a senior quantitative market and credit risk manager for the firm’s European asset management activities.

A native of western Ukraine, Nazar earned a master’s degree in theoretical physics from Ivan Franko Lviv State University. After two years as a researcher at the Polish Academy of Sciences, he was offered a research grant and moved to the Netherlands where Nazar completed his Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the Eindhoven University of Technology. He has also earned his financial risk management (FRM®) certification from the Global Association of Risk Professionals.
