Nuveen wins ‘Employer of the Year’ at the UK Women in Finance Awards 2021
Nuveen is delighted to be selected as the Employer of the Year at the UK Women in Finance Awards 2021 in recognition of our commitment to create a culture of equity and an inclusive and diverse working environment.
We understand the competitive advantage and business benefits that come from inclusion and diversity. Our efforts in this space are far from done but we continue to make progress. Currently, half of our board members, more than a third of our staff and more than a quarter of our investment professionals are women. Additionally, a third of our board members and a quarter of our staff, including 25% of our investment professionals and 21% of our portfolio managers, are from BAME (Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic) backgrounds.
Nuveen Inclusion & Diversity Council
To move the needle even further, Nuveen created a global Inclusion & Diversity Council, with CEO Jose Minaya as executive sponsor. From recruiting and mentorship programs to training and engagement, the council is focused on the firm’s inclusion and diversity strategy and initiatives to diversify our workforce, drive business impact and help Nuveen strengthen its leadership in the asset management industry.
Action through solidarity: Nuveen initiatives
With offices operating globally across 24 countries, we proudly cultivate an environment of inclusion that celebrates diversity and empowers our employees, clients and the communities we serve. Highlights include:
Championing women in asset management
LEAD (Leadership, Education, Advocacy and Development) is an industry affinity organization that creates networking opportunities, career sponsorships and growth for professional women at all levels. LEAD has almost 1,200 members worldwide and continues to provide a collective voice that strengthens the leadership of women.
Early Career Female Development Program
Last year, Nuveen Europe and Asia Pacific launched its inaugural Early Career Female Development Program. Over six months, 18 women received training to build their skills, influencing and coaching to position them for future leadership roles and opportunities to network with peers and senior leaders. These women are, in turn, acting as mentors for the next cohort of participants.
Gender equality in the workplace
Nuveen operates under the governance of the TIAA Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Workplace Policy to ensure that transgender and gender non-conforming associates feel safe and welcome while developing their careers at Nuveen.
Courageous Conversations
Over the past year, executive leaders hosted a series of Courageous Conversations with associates to enable and encourage open dialogue. Discussions aim to inspire proactive advocacy and anti-racism efforts, interactions that create compassion between colleagues and communities, and actions across our workplace that affirm our values.
