Costas Papamantellos

Costas is the Global Head of Clean Energy Investments

Costas has served as Global Head of Clean Energy Investments since June 2026, having joined Nuveen Infrastructure as Head of Energy Transition Investments in the autumn of 2025. Based in London, he leads the investment function for Nuveen Infrastructure’s clean energy equity business. In his role, he is responsible for the global investment teams and for investment strategy, origination, underwriting, investment execution, capital deployment and exits. Costas is a member of the Investment Committee for Nuveen’s clean energy equity funds and serves on the boards of several portfolio companies, including Verdian Power and BNZ, providing strategic oversight across investment, growth, and portfolio governance. Prior to joining Nuveen, Costas spent 17 years with RWE, most recently as Managing Director & Head of RWE's Energy Transition Investments platform. From 2017, he led investment teams in London and New York, developing investment strategies, and originating and executing investments across Europe and North America in renewable development platforms, distributed power generation, onshore wind repowering, energy storage and biomethane. From 2021, Costas also served as CEO of Meton Energy, an RWE Joint Venture developing a 1.5 GW solar PV portfolio, including a 940 MWp project, one of the largest solar assets in Europe.​ With close to 20 years of experience in the energy and investing, Costas has an extensive track record of developing investment strategies, originating and executing investments, and building investment platforms across the clean energy and broader energy transition landscape. Prior to RWE, he worked at The Boston Consulting Group.​

He holds both a Doctor of Philosophy (Dr.-Ing.) and Master of Science (Dipl.-Ing.) in Engineering from RWTH Aachen University in Germany.
