About Derreck Barker

Derreck Barker is the Head of U.S. Workplace for Nuveen Real Estate, where he leads strategic direction across all facets of the sector, including asset management, transactions, and capital formation throughout the United States. In his role, Derreck oversees a high-performing team and serves as a voting member of the company's U.S. Investment Committee. Prior to his current responsibilities, Derreck held several leadership positions within Nuveen Real Estate, including Head of U.S. Transactions and Western Regional Head for the Workplace sector.

Prior to joining the firm in 2019, Derreck served as a Director at HFF, where he operated as an office investment sales advisor focused on the Western U.S. and was involved in more than $2.5 billion in transactions. Earlier in his career, he held positions at Opus West and Marshall Property and Development, where he contributed across all aspects of the business with a primary emphasis on development, asset management, and transactions. During his tenure with both firms, Derreck was integral to the development of over two million square feet of commercial, multifamily, and mixed-use projects.

Derreck holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Real Estate Finance and Development from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California.
