Nuveen Green Capital appoints Genevieve Sherman as head of sustainability policy

Darien, CT (February 23, 2023) – Nuveen Green Capital, a leader in sustainable commercial real estate financing solutions, announced today that it has appointed Genevieve Sherman as Head of Sustainability & Policy.

In her new role as Head of Sustainability & Policy, reporting to Nuveen Green Capital President & CEO, Jessica Bailey, Ms. Sherman will lead policy-enabled market expansion for Nuveen Green Capital, supporting strategic growth for its investment capabilities. In this role, Ms. Sherman also takes on the leadership of Nuveen Green Capital’s Environmental Social and Governance impact data collection efforts to ensure robust reporting and long-term accountability as the organization augments its mission to reduce carbon emissions in the built environment.

Ms. Sherman joined Nuveen Green Capital (formerly Greenworks Lending) in March of 2016 to lead the organization’s policy implementation and geographic expansion of C-PACE (Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy) programs throughout the country. Ms. Sherman has worked with industry and public sector stakeholders to design legislation and partnerships that govern how capital providers invest in energy efficiency and renewable energy. In doing so, she has helped Nuveen Green Capital to deploy over $1.3B in C-PACE capital in over 30 states.

Prior to joining the organization, Ms. Sherman led the Connecticut C-PACE program as Director, Commercial & Industrial Programs at Connecticut Green Bank where she worked alongside Greenworks Lending co-founders, Jessica Bailey and Alexandra Cooley, in developing the state’s award-winning C-PACE program – widely regarded as the first successful C-PACE program in the country.
