About Matthew W. Smith
Matthew is a Managing Director on Nuveen's private fixed income team. In this role, he originates, negotiates, and executes transactions focused on project finance and infrastructure. He has also underwritten private equity transactions for Nuveen.
Prior to joining the firm, Matthew was a senior associate at a distressed credit and private equity firm, where he led the acquisition of several middle market manufacturing and distribution companies. He was also a senior equity research analyst at a multi-strategy investment fund, where he was responsible for equity investments in utility, power, alternative energy and industrial companies. Matthew also worked at Franklin Templeton Investments, where he served as a co-portfolio manager, vice president and research analyst responsible for over $12 billion in direct equity investments. His business and investment views have been quoted in BusinessWeek, USA Today, MSN Money, Investment Dealers’ Digest and Bloomberg News.
Matthew graduated with a B.S. in Commerce from the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce and an M.B.A., with honors, from the University of Chicago’s Booth School Of Business. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA North Carolina Society.
