About James Freeman
James is the Head of Australia and leads the team responsible for initiating new row crop and permanent crop investments as well as managing Nuveen’s Natural Capital current portfolio of over 75 individual properties totaling over 900,000 acres of tillable farmland.
Prior to that, James served as the chief operations officer of Nuveen Natural Capital in Australia. He was overseeing the Western Australian farmland portfolio as well as the risk, environmental, portfolio management, finance and legal functions of the Australian business. James is a Director of the 4 investment entities in Australia and serves as the chairperson of the Australian Operational Risk, ESG and WHS committees. His long career in the asset management and finance industries, includes having worked for Macquarie Group, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sach and JP Morgan prior to joining NNC. James brings with him strong agricultural experience having worked as the CFO and COO of a large livestock and cropping portfolio that operated over 4.4m ha and had over 450,000 head of cattle, 380,000 head of sheep and in excess of 80,000ha of cropping. His passion for the agriculture sector extends to the operation of his own family farming enterprise in central west NSW.
James holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance & Accounting) from Macquarie University, is a Chartered Accountant and a member of the AICD.
