About John Caruso
John is Global Head of Fund Finance for Nuveen Real Estate. John leads a department of close to 150 finance professionals in 10 cities around the world. He is responsible for internal and external reporting activities including investor reporting, operational and financial analysis, property and portfolio level performance returns and strategic management metrics. John also leads global efforts related to “fund finance.” He is a voting member of the Americas Investment Committee, OpCom and Executive Leadership Team. John joined TIAA/Nuveen in 2007 and has almost four decades of experience in the real estate, construction and software industries including eleven years in public accounting.
John currently serves as Chariman on the NCREIF/PREA Reporting Standards Council whose mission is bringing standards, transparency and consistency to institutional real estate reporting. He is currently leading a joint global initiative between NCREIF, PREA, INREV and ANREV, serving as Chairman of the Global Standards Steering Committee (“GSSC”). Consisting of senior executives from major real estate investors, investment managers and service providers and representing the constituencies of the four sponsoring organizations, the GSSC is charged with jointly developing a global set of information reporting and disclosure standards while limiting further divergence in the current standards relevant to the private/non‐listed real estate vehicle industry. Prior to joining the company, John served as CFO and COO for both domestic and international engaged in various aspects of the real estate industry.John is managing director and head of finance, Americas for Nuveen Real Estate. He is responsible for all financial activities of the business including corporate finance, fund finance and accounting, investor reporting, operational and financial planning and analysis, property and portfolio level performance returns and strategic management metrics.
John graduated with a B.S. in Accounting from Brooklyn College and received his CPA certification from New York State.
