John is a senior analyst on the firm’s Quantitative Equity Strategy Team. He is responsible for building quantitative models designed to rank stocks within their universe and to provide this and other quantitative research in support of the equity portfolio management teams.
He has been in the financial services industry since 1988 and joined Nuveen Asset Management in 2014. Previously, John worked at Ameriprise Financial where he led investment risk oversight for all equity and alternative based investment products. He also worked at Medtronic as the company’s assistant treasurer and the primary investment officer overseeing its $8 billion internal fixed income investment portfolio. Before that, John held several roles at American Express Financial Advisors, including senior quantitative equity analyst and also manager of both the Investment Statistical Support and Investment Accounting Groups. In addition, he spent time as a manager in the Risk Management Group at Piper Jaffray Inc. He started his career in 1985 as a senior auditor at Ernst & Young LLP.
John earned a B.S. in accounting from the University of Illinois and an M.B.A. in finance with a portfolio management concentration from the University of Minnesota. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, is a member of the CFA Institute and is a certified public accountant (inactive).
