Investment Strategy

The Fund invests in small- to mid-cap sized companies that it believes demonstrate growth potential and are reasonably priced. As a result of the opportunistic approach, the Fund may include companies with stable, sustainable earnings, fallen angels that the manager believes are near turnaround and companies that provide higher dividend yields. Factors that the Fund looks for, but is not limited to are; new management, near-term catalysts and companies that are potential for acquisition.

A Word On Risk

An investment in the Fund is subject to market risk or the risk that stocks in the portfolio will decline in response to such factors as adverse company news or industry developments or a general economic decline. Investments in small- or mid-cap companies are subject to greater volatility and price fluctuations and growth-style investing may fall out of favor. Investments in foreign stocks present additional risks, including foreign company risk, market risk, currency risk and correlation risk. As with any mutual fund, possible loss of principal is a risk of investing.

Portfolio Manager

George M. Tharakan, CFA, Director of Research - Portfolio Manager joined Santa Barbara Asset Management in 2003. George was previously a Senior Vice President at Vantis Capital, and prior to that he was a Senior Vice President at Roxbury Capital Management, and a Senior Design Engineer for Intel Corporation. Mr. Tharakan is an Honors graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology, has an M.S. in Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois, and received an MBA in Finance with Honors from the Anderson School of Business (UCLA).

Investment Spectrum

Effective May 1, 2008 Class B shares are only issued upon exchange of Class B shares from another Nuveen Fund or for purposes of dividend reinvestment. Effective December 31, 2008 the reinstatement privilege for Class B shares will no longer be available. Effective May 1, 2008, Class R shares were renamed Class I shares.
